About the Department

The requirement of infrastructure to fulfill the needs of the society around the globe has created a lot of scope for the Civil Engineering professionals. The requirement of Civil Engineering professionals in the fields of structural engineering, transportation, irrigation environmental engineering etc. has enormously increased day by day. In view of this the management of Anurag Group of Institutions has taken up a noble step to start the Civil Engineering branch to contribute to the society to fill the gap of requirement in the profession.
The Department of Civil Engineering has started in the year 2009 with an intake of 60 students in B. Tech., subsequently its intake has been increased to 120 in the year 2013 and to 180 in 2014 to cater the demand of the profession. The Department also runs two post graduation programs, M. Tech. (Structural Engineering) which was started in the year 2012 with an intake of 24 students each in two shifts and M.Tech. (Construction Management) started in 2014 with an intake of 24 students. The Department has highly committed faculty who did their education from various IITs, NITs and other reputed Universities. They strive always to provide a quality education to the students and work hard to develop the overall personality of the students. The laboratories in the Department contain self sufficient equipment to impart the required practical training to the students.

Academic Background

Ph.D. (Civil Engineering) : IIIT Hyderabad M.E. : O.U. Hyderabad B.E ( Civil Engineering) : O.U., Hyderabad
.

Research interests

Areas of research are Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering. Focus is on understanding of the seismic behavior of structural systems and development of simple numerical techniques for pre estimation of damage to structures during earthquakes. It also includes development and implementation of performance based design methods for seismic retrofit and design of new structures.

During Ph.D., in my research, a new methodology is proposed for seismic damage assessment of a reinforced concrete framed structure, based on the energy dissipated by the structure, along the completed displacement path. Three methods are proposed to assess the global damage state of the structure for any deformation in it. Proposed damage methods consider both, deformation and strength degradation of the structure to calculate the damage. Proposed damage methods can be applied to any structure under flexure or shear failure. A quick assessment of damage at less cost is the advantage of the proposed methods.

I have also worked on evaluation and improvement of accuracy of pushover analysis for seismic design. In my dissertation work, the energy dissipation capacity of a structure is estimated by a redefined non-linear pushover curve. In addition to my dissertation research, other areas that interest me for my future research stem are developing improved analytical models and methods for performance-based seismic design of RC structures. During my dissertation, I was also fortunate enough to have served as a teaching assistant at IIIT Hyderabad. My professional experience includes continuous service as a teaching faculty for 17 years for under graduate and post graduate students. My service also includes as a structural designer (about 10 years) of various residential buildings as a passion of my profession at Hyderabad. While my professional career offered a great deal of success, my PhD program created interest in research. I believe teaching and research should go hand in hand.
