Faculty Development Program on Computing Freedom in Engineering Education

The Department of CSE conducted one day Faculty Development Program on Computing Freedom in Engineering Education-A Free Software Perspective on 4-DEC-2010 in association with Swecha (Part of Free Software Movement of India).The Program was inaugurated by Prof K. Rama Reddy, Senior Director , Anurag Group of Institutions and in his inaugural speech he highlighted the role of teachers in building the new generation noncommercial softwares. Prof M. Mutha Reddy, Principal, Anurag Group of Institutions explained the role of engineering colleges to give wide publicity to the free softwares as alternative to the licensed softwares. The experts Mr. B. Bhuvan Krishna , General Secretary, Swecha and Mr.Akbar, Member of Academic Chapter , Swecha have come and delivered lectures on Free software Development model: FOSS paradigm, Alternative Softwares for Databases, Scripting, WebTechnologies(CSE/IT Stream), Alternative Softwares for SPICE, VLSI, MATLAB(ECE/EEE Stream). Total 120 faculty members from various Engineering colleges and P.G. students attended the program. The sessions were informative and interactive. The participants have got the information about available free softwares as an alternative to the present commercial and licensed softwares. They have demonstrated Number of applications and the workshop was a grand success.
